Asiatic Dayflower
I remember the first time I saw this little flower. The blooms are about the size of a dime or maybe as big as a nickle. I struggled to get a photo that showed the amazing detail and beauty of this flower. The blue really is this deep. The light shimmer in the two leaves is completely natural. It is called a dayflower because the blooms only last one day, but it blooms regularly in season. This is a native plant of Asia. It was introduced into Europe and the US. Surprisingly, many consider this a noxious weed that needs to be eliminated. After that first siting I have seen this plant in gardens as well as several wild settings. I'm not sure this plant is prolific enough to be considered invasive though.
