Badlands National Park

We were staying in Rapid City over the 4th of July holiday and had just one day to drive down to Badlands National Park. It was raining so much we could barely see, but decided to drive down anyway since it was our only shot. It was a long drive without any assurance we would see anything but rain. We did get a short visit and were enticed enough to go back for a longer visit on a future trip.

The lightning persisted as you can see in these clouds. You can imagine how vulnerable I felt taking photos and very often on the highest point around. I look back at moments like this and wonder what I was thinking.
