Badlands National Park

We were staying in Rapid City over the 4th of July holiday and had just one day to drive down to Badlands National Park. It was raining so much we could barely see, but decided to drive down anyway since it was our only shot. It was a long drive without any assurance we would see anything but rain. We did get a short visit and were enticed enough to go back for a longer visit on a future trip.

Although attacks on humans are rare, when I saw his tail in flag stance I was concerned he felt threatened. I stayed as cool and quiet as I could and kept the camera up to my face to avoid eye contact.
