Apparently I had positioned myself very close to the path they were taking. This was shot at 150 mm meaning I was WAY TOO CLOSE!
I was more than a little excited and ran back to get the longer lens I use for wildlife. Just as I got back they started moving.

Since Sheep Lake is popular with visitors the park has rangers assigned to keep people far away from the sheep. I was so far away I was lucky to get any usable photos.
Bighorn Sheep occasionally come down to Sheep Lake where they eat some of the soil to obrain nutrients. It is uncommon to get to see these and many visitors to the park come for years and never see them. We only saw them once.
This female American Kestrel has been banded. This often occurs when a bird is injured and later released, or captured as part of some study.

The campground was nice with lots of shade from the namesake Cottonwood trees. However, it was otherwise not photogenic. However, a pair of Great Horned Owls have taken up residence there and I was delighted to photograph them. This is the female. They are about two feet tall.
