This Hole-in-the-sand Plant is limited to three counties in west Texas. The little yellow section close to the tip of each narrow leaf is an oil gland that exudes an odor when squeezed. It probably helps protect the plant from over grazing too. I was lucky to get to see it.

As soon as hikers get in sight one of the Mexicans starts singing and tells you quickly that he is singing for you. As soon as you drop a donation in the bucket he stops, even mid-song. We observed this more than once on this hike.
More Bicolored Mustard. I love the flowers on this plant.

This female Northern Cardinal paid a visit just before it was time to head out to the Boquillas Canyon Trail.
And just a few minutes later it is a different sunset. This is the first of six sunset photos showing how one sunset evolved over eight minutes.
While I was wandering around the desert waiting for the sunset to evolve I ran across this. It was behind a bush and the entire shaft was buried up to the fletching. Hunting is not allowed in the park, although there is lots of hunting available outside the park. No doubt there is an interesting story behind this arrow.

Warnock Cactus in bloom. We were a little early in the season and I was surprised that we got to see any in bloom.
After the hot springs we were off to the Main Park Road to find a different perspective on the sunset. Most of the sunsets are against clear skys. This results in a red ball going over the horizon so bright you can't even watch it. While every sunset is precious, those with a few clouds show off more of nature's beauty.
The Mexican watching the souvenir stand from across the river. There were warning signs posted that cars had been frequently broken into in the gravel parking lot at the trailhead. We didn't see anything out of the ordinary. There is a longer trail to the hot springs from an area near the campground.
